FAQ's

1. Can you direct bill my insurance provider for the fees?

I am listed in Telus eClaims. And, if you are eligible, I can direct bill for:

-GreenShieldCanada

-SSQ Insurance

-Medavie BlueCross (if you are in Ontario) (in Alberta, your counselling claims need to be manual at this time)

Other insurance companies may not necessarily have direct billing options for counselling/psychotherapy, or I have not looked into joining their network. If you would like me to look into direct billing with your plan, let me know, I am happy to do so.

Note, for me to process direct billing I need certain pieces of information such as your plan ID number, if you have other coverage, etc. And, your insurer might ask me for more information. We can discuss this before you agree to proceed.

2. Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?

Virtual appointments are often available M-Th at 6pm Mountain Time / 8pm Eastern Time.

3. Do you provide services to adults who are:

Atheist? Christian? Hindu? Jewish? Muslim? Conservative? Green? Liberal? NDP? Centre? Left? Right? Androgynous? Asexual? Bisexual? Gay? Intersex? Lesbian? Queer? Questioning? Transgender? Two-Spirit? Black? Hispanic/Latinx? Indigenous? Middle Eastern? Multiracial? Pacific Islander? South Asian? White? Living with a disability? Choosing to wear a mask? Choosing to not wear a mask? Other?

Yes.

Provided that the main issue that someone is seeking individual psychotherapy / counselling for is effects of the past, a difficult relationship, anger, stress, anxiety, or mild depression, and within the scope of what psychotherapy / counselling is, I welcome any adult in Alberta or Ontario into my practice, and I appreciate that they have sought me out to listen to them and assist them as best I can in their efforts to improve their well-being. If the assistance someone is seeking falls outside of my specialties or outside of what psychotherapy / counselling is, then I might not be in a position to assist them for that reason, but I will do my best to help connect them with a provider that better meets their needs.

Also, note that psychotherapy / counselling is partly about helping individuals become more aware of and clarify their emotions and thoughts, and helping them decide if they agree with their thoughts or not. I do not see it as my role as a psychotherapist / counsellor to tell anyone what to think or believe, or to judge them for their thoughts or beliefs*. I see my role in part as informing people about some potentially helpful psychotherapy / counselling approaches, strategies, and tools that I am aware of, so they can in turn to choose a path forward within those; or, within other approaches, if maybe they at some point decide that another provider with other training or within another profession would be a better fit for their needs.

*That said there are confidentiality limits defined by laws / regulations / ethics codes that I am obligated to adhere to: Please see “Privacy” above and/or contact me for more information about the limits.

4. If I meet with you will I receive a diagnosis?

No. Ontario Registered Psychotherapists are not permitted to do this, and generally this is not a service I offer at this time. That said if you would like a formal diagnostic assessment, I can help you find such a service.
